My own design for the little soldier in your family. This knitting pattern is for the combat boot booties in three sizes:
Newborn, 3-6 months, 6-9 months
Newborn booties are made in DK or sport weight yarn. The two larger sizes are made in worsted weight.
This is for the pattern only. 
These booties are knitted from the cuff down, in the round, on double-pointed needles.
